Apologies for posting about a problem and not offering a solution, but I just wanted to point our—once again—how useless the StackExchange forum is for most "normal" (non-programmer) Ubuntu users. After I upgraded my Ubuntu system to 22.04, this message started popping up upon starting or restarting my computer: mtd device must be supplied (device name is empty)? After I upgraded from Ubuntu 20.10 to 21.04, updates kept returning the error message "ubuntu "security update"package failed."  After going through a long list of google search results, and trying mostly useless stuff, I came upon this solution at this location.    Be sure to note that I added a cd command (see below) to the instructions at the referenced location.
