Firmware Updates and Update Messages on an Older Computer running Linux Ubuntu
After I upgraded my Linux Ubuntu computer to version 25.10, I kept getting the message "Firmware available for KEK CA". I searched Gemini AI for an explanation and, possibly, for a fix, and this was the answer I got: Click here for answer.
So I opened the Terminal and typed in " sudo fwupdmgr update " (no quotes); (Gemini did not include "sudo" but you might have to include it to make things work correctly.)
After I ran the command in the Terminal I received the message:
See https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/wiki/PluginFlag:capsules-unsupported for more information.
Devices with the latest available firmware version:
• UEFI CA
Devices with no available firmware updates:
• DB
• KEK
• KEK CA
• SBAT
So, back to Gemini to ask what all that means (using the Warning message only to form my inquiry). The full answer is here, but basically it means that the firmware for my really old Fujitsu computer cannot be updated using the CLI phrase above. Instead, I was advised to update my firmware according to the Manufacturer's advice, something I might attempt to do (and will post, if I try it).
Now I am reduced to "updating my old Fujitsu computer the old way, according to the manufacturer's instructions"; finding some way to disable the "Firmware available for KEK CA" message; or just ignoring the message and living with it. Stay tuned.
